L&T Construction to build Statue of Unity

L&T Construction’s Buildings & Factories Business had bagged EPC contract for design and construction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project – the Statue of Unity.
“Bagging this order is a matter of great pride for us at L&T as it re-affirms the confidence that people have in us to build complex structures,” said S N Subrahmanyan, Member of the Board & Senior Executive Vice President (Infrastructure & Construction).
As per Rs2989 crore contract from the Government of Gujarat, L&T will design and construct 182 m (597 ft) bronze statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the Sadhu-Bet island, approx 3.5 km south of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia in the Narmada district of Gujarat.
Besides design and construction of the Statue of Unity, L&T’s scope of work also involves design and construction of exhibition centre at its base, a memorial garden, a designer bridge connecting Sadhu Island with the mainland along the Narmada River, an internal roadway of 5 km length, upgrading existing roads/bridges/culverts connecting the area of Sadhu Island.
It will also host an administrative complex/ a management hub cum a star rated hotel Shresta Bharat Bhavan and a conference centre. This memorial tourist centre is expected to be completed within 42 months.
“Purely in engineering and construction perspective, the Statue of Unity poses some very unique challenges and we possess the requisite credentials to construct,” adds Subrahmanyan.
Once completed, the Statue of Unity will be the tallest in the world.
